Live Experience

Below is a summary of the performance side of my career so far. It details the notable bands and projects I’ve been a part of. Please drop me a message if you’d like me to be a part of your live project.

Meet Your Heroes - 2024-present

Personal originals project comprised of myself, Pete Hill on drums and Rhys Lovell on bass. It’s an instrumental jazz-rock trio, occupying the gulf between Khruangbin and Wayne Krantz.

The London Essentials - 2010-present

I was an original member of this party band that specialises in irreverent, high-energy performances. We perform at guests’ tables, acoustically, and engage the audience in outrageous ways. I have also written many vocal arrangements for the band’s repertoire.

Peter Suart - 2008-present

I’ve done several shows with writer, artist and musician Peter Suart over the years, usually playing very textural guitar in accompaniment to Pete’s surreal/disturbing compositions and monologues.

The Shrubs - 2006-present

A rock covers band started by myself, Rory Harvey on bass and Andy Baker on drums. The lineup has changed over the years but Rory and I remain the basic core. In our early days we played relentlessly in the local Hampshire pubs, and we continue to play weddings and events when asked… we don’t have any promo so IYKYK.

Jess Robinson - 2018-2022

Jess is a uniquely talented singer-impressionist-comedian. I played bass in a few of her original shows, including two consecutive years at Edinburgh Fringe (2018-19), a Christmas (Jessmas) tour in 2021, and for three series of her podcast, Stars In Your Ears. I also played a large music production role in the podcast.

Disney Cruise Line - 2017-2019

I did three contracts on the Disney Wonder, the first two as frontman of a swing trio in a restaurant called Tiana’s Place (based on the film The Princess and the Frog), and the final one performing solo pop and rock covers in the various bars across the ship.

WOWH - 2015-2018

WOWH (We Only Write Hits) is an originals project from the writing/production duo Nick Harrison and Toby Couling. I performed bass initially, then guitar, in the live band for some years. One highlight was playing the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury in 2017.

Sympathiser - 2015-2017

Formerly Jasper House, I was invited to play bass in this Leeds-based originals band formed by Sam Pycroft (guitar), George Genn (drums) and Ollie Deans (guitar). We did some touring and played Kendal Calling in 2016.

Take Me Here by the Dishwasher - 2016

I was one of many ‘troubadour’ characters in this performance-art piece by the Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson, which took place at the Barbican, London for a few months in 2016. We played acoustic guitar and sang a song entitled Take Me Here by the Dishwasher on a constant loop for up to eight hours, whilst languishing on sofas and drinking beer.

Joymask - 2007-2014

My first personal originals project, which went through many iterations, starting as a weird trip-hop band and morphing into a more straight-ahead funk-pop group, sometimes with horn section. My favourite experience was a month spent in Hong Kong performing a number of small shows in late 2014. The lineup at the end was Dougal Taylor (drums), Tommy Antonio (keys), Jolyon Vietch (bass) and myself on guitar and vocals.

the box - 2007-2009

I played guitar and bass in two runs of shows in Hong Kong with this experimental theatre project from Peter Suart and Kung Chi Shing - Bluebeard in 2007 and Songs from the Wilderness in 2009. At one point in rehearsals I was given the note to ‘make the guitar sound like a panther having its skin torn off’.
